Plymouth’s Police Chief John Weir patrolled Oakhill Avenue on Wednesday, November 20th, when he got behind a silver Impala with expired plates.
Just before noon, he initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and spoke with the driver. While running his information through the BMV, the chief found that 44-year-old Preston L. Smith of West Marshall Street in Argos had an active warrant out of Elkhart County.
Smith was taken into custody, transported to the Marshall County Jail, and held on the Elkhart County warrant.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
