The Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) created March as Children’s Art Month in 1961 to emphasize the value of children's participation in visual art education. In 1969, the celebration expanded to include secondary school students, and the Children’s Art Month event officially became known as Youth Art Month. In 1984, ACMI created the non-profit organization, The Council for Art Education (CFAE), to advocate for visual art education.
Every year during March, National Youth Art Month is organized by the Council for Art Education (CFAE), and the Heartland Art Center in Plymouth participates with a local program open to all students in K-12 schools and homeschooling programs in Marshall County.
The Heartland Art Center in Plymouth joins other arts organizations around the U.S. to host an annual exhibition celebrating the community's young, emerging artists. This unique opportunity recognizes outstanding young artists in Marshall County and allows these students to have their artwork on display in a real gallery!
Marshall County students from any K-12 school and homeschooling program are invited to participate. The submission registration form is due by February 23rd, and the exhibition will be from March 4th to the 28th at the Heartland Art Center, 214 North Michigan Street in downtown Plymouth. Additional information is available on the Heartland Art Center's Facebook page.
