Beacon Health Systems now oversees the WIC Program in Marshall County.

County Health Department Administrator Sandy Dunfee told the commissioners that the Health Department had overseen the program and struggled with staffing issues and providing the services they wanted for the last several years.

After working with Beacon Community Outreach Programs, Dunfee said they showed interest in expanding some of their services into Marshall County through the WIC program. She said, “It was just a blessing when they reached out to say they were very interested in helping us keep our WIC office running.”

Leslie Miller from Beacon is the manager of the WIC Programs in St. Joseph County and now Marshall County and will take over Starke County on January 1st. She told the commissioners that they took over the Marshall County office on October 1st and are fully staffed. The hours of operation have expanded from 35 to 40, and they will remain in suite 240 in the Community Resource Center at 510 West Adams Street. Miller said they aren’t changing the name, and the phone number will remain the same (574-936-8208). She said clients shouldn’t notice a difference.  Miller also said they’ve also created a Facebook page at Marshall County WIC.

The County Health Department will continue to partner with the local WIC office.
