During the September 23rd Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, City Attorney Jeff Houin presented a proposed Memorandum of Understanding with the City of Plymouth and the Plymouth Community School Corporation.

The MOU designates two school employees as crossing guards.  The two employees are Webster Elementary School Aid Kim Olivarez and Ward Byers Director of Safety and Security for the school corporation.

Houin said the reason for the MOU is under Indiana Code, the Board of Public Works and Safety must designate the crossing guards. He said there are several crossing guards in various locations around the city.   They are city employees and assist students in getting to school safely.

The school corporation requested adding these two employees giving them full authority to act as crossing guards, not as paid city employees, the school corporation would pay these two as employees of the corporation.   This designation gives them authority to direct traffic and ensure safety for students.

Members of the Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the MOU.
