The Plymouth Common Council suspended the rules Monday evening and passes two different ordinances on all three readings.
The first ordinance modifies the fees for a niche in the new columbariums at Oakhill Cemetery.
City Attorney Sean Surrisi said the current fee is $800 and Cemetery Superintendent Mike Collins has asked to increase the price to $1,000.
A columbarium is a room, building, or structure with niches for funeral urns to be stored. A niche in the columbarium can hold two urns.
The second ordinance approved on all three readings was a modification to the 2023 Salary Ordinance. Again, City Attorney Sean Surrisi explained the change to the city council. He said the change is adding the $5,000 raise to city police officers.
Passing this ordinance on all three readings will allow the city to increase officers’ pay beginning April 1st.
