The railroad crossing on Lake Avenue was discussed during this week's Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting. Councilman Don Ecker said he discussed the crossing's roughness with City Attorney Jeff Houin months ago and wanted to know what the city could do to get the railroad to respond.

Houin said he reached out to Patriot Rail several times.  He did get a response early on, but when they learned the reason for the contact, he hadn’t heard anything since.  He said he was willing to try to escalate the issue and find other contact information.

The city attorney said they recently had a conversation with INDOT about other projects, and the railroad crossing came up in the discussions.  Houin said they would also try to contact the railroad since Lake Avenue is State Road 17.

Ecker said drivers are stopped before crossing the tracks due to the condition.  He also suggested seeking the county’s support for improvements.
