Nelson Chipman, representing the Marshall County America 250 Committee, and Mike Miley from the Marshall County Historical Society appeared before the Commissioners on Monday seeking approval to use the courthouse, lawn, and parking areas on Friday, April 18th for the kick-off to the year-long celebration.

Chipman said the event on the 18th is the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere’s Ride, warning the Minutemen that the British were coming.

The event will begin at 8:30 p.m., and Miley said Culver’s Black Horse Troupe will bring 16 horses and riders to the ceremony.

The exciting news about the event is that a descendant of Captain John Pulling Jr. lives in the area and hopes to attend.  Pulling carried two lanterns to the church’s steeple when Revere started his famous ride.

Chipman told the commissioner he is working with Billy Schoff, the head of Buildings and Grounds, about getting the two lights in the courthouse tower the evening of the event.

The commissioners were excited about the historic event and gave their unanimous approval for the use of the property.

The guys said many more events will be planned, and they are hoping to get other communities in the county involved in the Marshall County American 250 celebration.
