Earlier this month, the Marshall County Commissioners approved on the first reading an ordinance establishing a mobile home permit fee for the county treasurer's operations.

On February 17, Marshall County Treasurer Sandy Dodson told the commissioners she identified the need to establish a fee to cover the cost of processing mobile home permits. The ordinance would establish a $10 fee that will be charged to any person or entity filing a mobile home permit or revision.

Dodson asked to have the fees collected put into a non-reverting fund to cover office supplies, primarily ink for printers.  She said Marshall County Attorney Sean Surrisi had reviewed the ordinance.

Commissioner Jesse Bohannon said, “I certainly agree with the thought process that it’s always best when the folks receiving the benefit of the service are paying for the cost associated with that service.”  He motioned to approve the ordinance on first reading and the commissioners unanimously approved it.

The commissioners also approved the L&D Mail Masters agreement for the preparation and mailing of the county’s tax statements and a pre-payment for the service.

Dodson also asked for security for the two weeks before the tax collection in the spring and fall, April 28 to May 12 and October 27 to November 10.

Commissioner Bohannon asked what the arrangement looked like and Dodson said there is a security officer in the treasurer’s office during business hours.  He asked if an outside firm was hired for the job and Dodson said the sheriff’s department provided security officers.

Commissioner Stan Klotz asked the county treasurer if she had the funds in her budget to cover the cost of security and she told him it’s not a budgeted item.

County Auditor Angie Birchmeier is the former County Treasurer and said security is provided by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department using part-time security officers.

The commissioners approved the request as presented.

This year the county treasurer’s office will not be open on the two Saturdays before the property tax due date nor will they be open late any evenings.
