Today, Congressman Rudy Yakym (IN-02) sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas requesting a briefing ASAP from the Department on the migrant situation in Logansport, Indiana, located in Cass County. Under the Biden-Harris administration, there has been a rapid influx of migrants from Haiti and other nations into Logansport, causing a severe strain on local resources and the community, as the New York Post recently reported on, and Logansport and Cass County officials have confirmed.
"Logansport is a city of 18,000 in northern Indiana. However, my office has heard reports from local officials about a large influx of thousands of migrants from Haiti and other countries, which is overwhelming Logansport’s infrastructure," Yakym wrote. "This includes a surge in tests for infectious diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, and hepatitis that are straining the medical system, hundreds of children being brought into a school system that cannot keep up with the demands of the non-English-speaking students, and an acute housing shortage."

Dear Secretary Mayorkas,
I write with great concern about the migrant situation in Logansport, Indiana, and I would like to request a briefing as soon as possible.
Logansport is a city of 18,000 in northern Indiana. However, my office has heard reports from local officials about a large influx of thousands of migrants from Haiti and other countries, which is overwhelming Logansport’s infrastructure. This includes a surge in tests for infectious diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, and hepatitis that are straining the medical system, hundreds of children being brought into a school system that cannot keep up with the demands of the non-English-speaking students, and an acute housing shortage.
A small town like Logansport cannot withstand such a rapid influx of foreign migrants. I am requesting a formal briefing to fully understand this crisis and the Department of Homeland Security’s role in facilitating or encouraging resettlement in Logansport.
I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Rudy Yakym
