The Marshall County Council has heard the first reading of the 2025 budget requests.

Council President Jesse Bohannon said, “At this point, we’re not going to get into any discussion on any individual proposals.  We will just accept the overall submissions for the record.”  He said they will hold some discussions with the Budget & Finance subcommittee between now and the second reading in September.

County Auditor Angie Birchmier said the submitted budget requests for next year total $42,788,783 with $16,354,260 being in the General Fund.  She told council members the Department of Government Finance released estimated revenues just a couple of days ago, but she needs to review them before sending the revenue estimate to the council.

Birchmier said, “Just a reminder, the budget is high to be advertised, higher than what it will be.  Once we advertise, we can add no more to the budget.  You can always come down and move things around.”

She said cuts will come at the September meeting.

Bohannon proceeded to read the budget requests of all General Fund, and special funds by department.
