Indiana State Police Bremen District Focus on SR2 Traffic Safety

On July 1, the Indiana State Police attended a meeting called by Indiana State Representative Jim Pressel.  This meeting included representatives from the Indiana State Police Bremen District, the Indiana State Police Lowell District, representatives from INDOT, as well as the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and St. Joseph County Police Department.  This meeting was to discuss traffic complaints along the SR2/US20 corridor.

As a result of this meeting, the Indiana State Police Bremen District will have the troopers assigned to St. Joseph County have a weekly focus on the corridor from the LaPorte County/St. Joseph County line to the US20 Bypass, focusing on crash causation factors of speed, following too closely, and reckless driving.  These focused patrols will not always occur at the same time each day or on the same day of the week, so they do not become predictable.  The hope of the increased presence of troopers will cause some voluntary compliance, and speeds and aggressive driving will be reduced.

As this area continues to develop, there will be growing pains, and our approach will continue to adapt as needed.  Our focus has always been keeping Indiana’s roads safe, and that focus will continue whether through enforcement or the voluntary compliance of the public.
