Plymouth Police were dispatched to Applebee’s at 2225 North Oak Drive for a possibly impaired driver at about 9:30 Thursday evening, July 11th.
Officer Lovely arrived on scene and observed a gray Discovery pulling out of the Applebee’s parking lot. The vehicle sped straight through the stop sign and 5 lanes of traffic. It then accelerated at a high rate of speed east down Pilgrim Lane until coming to a stop at Western Avenue.
During the investigation, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. The driver, 36-year-old Jared Knapp agreed to take field sobriety testing and all tests indicated impairment.
Knapp was transported to Saint Joseph Hospital where he was given a certified chemical test which indicated that his blood alcohol content was over twice the legal limit.
Jared Knapp was transported to Marshall County Jail and lodged for operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior conviction as a level 6 felony, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person under 18 as a level 6 felony, and neglect of a dependent as a level 6 felony.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
