Marshall County Community Cleanup Challenge returns: Join the effort April 14-28

The Marshall County Community Cleanup Challenge is back from April 14-28, inviting residents, businesses, and organizations to join forces in cleaning up litter across the county. This community-wide effort, led by the Marshall County Recycle Depot, is an opportunity for individuals and groups to take action in making their neighborhoods, parks, and businesses cleaner and more beautiful.

Participation is simple: grab a trash bag, head to an area in need, and collect litter. Bagged trash can be brought to the Recycle Depot during business hours or by appointment. Groups of five or more can reserve the Community Clean-Up Trailer, made possible through a grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. The trailer is available to assist with litter pick-up, environmental restoration, and even tree planting.

Executive Director Marianne Peters encourages residents to get involved, saying, "The Community Cleanup Challenge is a chance for all of us to step up and take pride in the place we call home. Litter doesn’t just disappear—it takes people willing to make a difference. Whether you clean up your own street or gather a group to tackle a bigger project, every effort helps. Let’s work together to make Marshall County a cleaner and greener place to live."

Participants can pick up trash bags and personal protective equipment at the Recycle Depot, located at 1900 Walter Glaub Drive in Plymouth, during business hours. A roll-off box will be available at the Depot for dropping off bagged litter. While large items cannot be accepted, participants may presort aluminum cans, glass, and plastic beverage containers for recycling if they are clean and dry. Yard signs are also available to help promote the cleanup effort.

Community members and groups are encouraged to document their cleanup efforts by taking photos and sharing them on social media, tagging the Recycle Depot and their local communities to help spread awareness and inspire others to participate.

Since its introduction in 2020, the Community Cleanup Challenge has grown each year, with civic groups, businesses, and individuals stepping up to keep Marshall County looking its best. Organizers hope this year’s challenge will see even more participation as residents come together to make a lasting impact.
