United Way of Marshall County is working with the local faith community, nonprofits, businesses, and volunteers to conduct a survey to collect data on homelessness and housing insecurities in Marshall County. The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is an annual count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless people across the United States on a single day in January. This year’s count takes place on Wednesday, January 29. Local efforts will provide a “snapshot” of homelessness in Marshall County. Last year over 100 individuals were interviewed across Marshall County to better understand what housing insecurity looks like in our local communities.
Families and individuals who have relied on the township trustee, churches, or charities to help them stay housed month-to-month are asked to participate in the PIT Count. Persons facing eviction, who rely on couch surfing, or feel they are forced to reside in an unsafe space are encouraged to make their voices heard. Multiple families staying in a single residence – not by choice – are asked to participate, too.
Have you experienced homelessness? Do you know someone who must fight month-to-month to keep their family in a safe, affordable home or apartment? Please help spread the word about this important event. The local PIT Count will improve understanding of the needs and circumstances of the people who are affected by homelessness in Marshall County. The PIT Count gives nonprofits, like the United Way, and local officials the information needed to apply for grants and craft programming opportunities to address the housing needs in Marshall County
Individuals may go to the PIT Count locations listed below on Wednesday, January 29. Specially trained volunteers will be at each PIT Count location to help in the simple, quick process.
