The City of Plymouth is proud to announce a significant partnership with the Northern Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA) to enhance transportation infrastructure and connectivity in our region.
Mayor Listenberger stated, “This partnership marks a transformative step towards improving our community’s mobility and accessibility. By working with NIPRA, we are committed to bringing efficient, sustainable, and customer-focused passenger rail service back to Northern Indiana.”
The Northern Indiana Passenger Rail Association has been at the forefront of advocating for the reintroduction of passenger rail services in our region. This project will connect Pittsburg to Chicago with a stop in Plymouth.
Key highlights of the partnership include:
- Enhanced Connectivity: The new passenger rail service will connect Plymouth with major cities, providing residents with more travel options and reducing reliance on personal vehicles.
- Economic Growth: Improved transportation infrastructure is expected to attract businesses and tourists, boosting the local economy and creating job opportunities.
- Sustainability: This initiative supports our commitment to environmental stewardship by offering a greener alternative to traditional transportation.
“We are excited about the potential this partnership holds for Plymouth and the surrounding communities,” Mayor Robert Listenberger added. “Together, we are paving the way for a more connected, prosperous, and sustainable future.”
To ensure the success of this ambitious project, HNTB Corporation, a leading consultant with a robust portfolio in transportation planning, including involvement in over 40 passenger rail corridors, has been brought on board. HNTB will review past studies, identify gaps, and establish a detailed scope, schedule, and budget for the remaining planning efforts. Their work is expected to continue through June 2025.
