MCEDC update County Commissioners a activities around the county

Greg Hildebrand, CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation, discussed activity across the county with the County Commissioners last week.   

He said that Sequel Wire announced an expansion and additional hiring at their Argos location. Hildebrand is working with the Community of Argos and IEDC to help that expansion.

Hildebrand has been in communications with Norfolk & Southern and INDOT about the U.S. 31 and 10 intersections, along with the two rail crossings. He told the commissioners, “Something needs to be addressed there.  We are also working with some of our federal legislators about a possible safe rail crossing grades and things of that nature.”

In the Town of Bourbon, Hildebrand was able to talk with the national representative for UPS who handles their real estate.  A local industry is interested in that facility.  He said, “Hopefully they can come to a deal to keep from that building sitting empty.”

In Bremen, Hardwood Interior Design moved into its new expanded facility, doubling its square footage.  Hildebrand told the commissioners they have over 100 employees, and Hardwood Interiors is working with MACOG to help provide van transportation for their Amish employees.

The Town of Bremen continues working on its housing and trail improvements. Hildebrand said, “This project has already attracted some additional retail interest in downtown Bremen.”

Culver is working on revitalizing their Discover Downtown Culver organization and making infrastructure improvements to the two downtown areas.

The Dunes residential project in Culver is moving forward and will be leasing units later this summer. Hildebrand reiterated that the Dunes will not have lake access.

In Plymouth, the vacant facility of Indiana Heat Transfer on Harrison Street could be demolished this summer.  Hildebrand spoke with a cleanup crew from a third-party vendor for Cummins, and they finished their work.

The Water Street Townhomes in downtown Plymouth are being framed.  This project will add 12 residential units and one retail space. These townhouses will be offered at a market rate and are an important part of the downtown redevelopment plan.

Hildebrand told the commissioners the Marshall County Career Innovation Center renovation is coming to an end, and the new construction is scheduled to be completed this year. The fall semester of 2025 will see an influx of 26 additional CTE students in the Spring of 2026.

Also in Plymouth, Divert has a new plant manager, and they continue to grow operations there. Currently, they are building the amount of organic material they separate from packaging and convert to slurry for anaerobic digestors to convert to natural gas.
