Officer Fisher makes arrests on U.S. 30

Officer Fisher from the Plymouth Police Department has been working traffic control on U.S. 30 between Pioneer and Oak Drives.  Recently he arrested three individuals.

On Friday, July 26^th at 8:45 in the evening Officer Fisher stopped a vehicle east of Oak Drive for speeding 78 in a 60-MPH zone. The driver was identified as 25-year-old Cristian Rangel Lopez of Elgin, Illinois. During the traffic stop, it was determined that Rangel-Lopez only had a temporary visitor driver's license out of Illinois and had never had a driver's license. He was placed under arrest because he was never licensed and transported to Marshall County Jail.

On Saturday, July 28^th just before 1 a.m. Officer Fisher conducted a traffic stop at U.S. 30 and Oak Drive on a vehicle for driving 80 mph in a 50 mph. The driver was identified as Samuel Gbortsu 43, from South Bend. During the investigation it was determined that Gbortsu had been drinking. He was given a certified blood draw, and test results showed he was .11 on the certified test.  Gbortsu was transported to Marshall County Jail and booked in for OWI above .08 and for OWI endangerment.

On Sunday, July 29^th at about 1:45 in the morning Officer Fisher stopped a speeding vehicle on U.S. 30 at Pioneer Drive. The driver was identified as Vera Chalen Dimas, 50, of Chicago. Dimas was driving 75-mph in a 50-mph zone.  During the traffic stop, it was determined that Dimas only had a temporary visitor license from Chicago and had never had a driver's license. Vera Dimas was arrested for being an operator who had never had a license. He was transported to Marshall County Jail and booked in for operating without a license.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
