This Saturday, November 9th, dozens of volunteers will gather at the home of Jan and Ken Houin to pack over 2,000 holiday stockings for the troops who won’t be home for the holidays through Operation Quiet Comfort.

Packing begins at 10 a.m. and will continue until all the stockings are full, which should be about 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The more volunteers they have, the more fun they have, the easier the job gets, and the quicker it will be done.  There are jobs of all kinds, from sit-down jobs to heavy-lifting jobs, something for everyone. Everyone is welcome. Whether you can stay for an hour or the whole day, you are encouraged to get into the holiday spirit with the annual holiday packing party for Operation Quiet Comfort. Lunch will be provided.

This year, many of the holiday stockings are handmade.  Friends of OQC from Illinois delivered over 300 stockings, Jeanne Middleton sewed 711 stockings, the Friendship Quilters again gifted the troops 330, and another friend of Operation Quiet Comfort made 70-holiday stockings from denim jeans.

Jan Houin said, “These are beautiful stockings and are guaranteed to put smiles on the faces of our troops when they feel the love that went into each of them.”

If you want to volunteer to cheer the troops up this holiday season, stop by 17671 13th Road in Plymouth this Saturday between 10 and 3. Everyone is welcome.
