Ortiz arrested at Economy Inn for battery resulting in bodily injury

Plymouth Police arrested a local man on Tuesday after they were called to a fight at one of the motels on the north end of the city.

Just before 1 a.m. city officers were dispatched to 2535 North Michigan Street, the Economy Inn for a fight in progress. Officers located two males who had been involved in a physical altercation.   

Officer Schieber began an investigation and determined that the intoxicated males had engaged in a verbal altercation before punches were thrown. 

Bill Ortiz, 44 was said to be from Plymouth although his booking information says he is from North Judson.  Ortiz allegedly punched the second male in the face, causing injury. 

Ortiz was taken into custody, transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked in for battery resulting in bodily injury and public intoxication.  He was held on a $500 cash bond. 

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
