Plymouth Kiwanis Club Grantes License Exception for Peanuts & Gummi Bear Fundraiser

Monday evening the Plymouth Kiwanis Club presented an application for exemption from licensing requirements from a city ordinance to the Common Council.
The Plymouth Kiwanis Club annual collects funds at the corner of Michigan and Jefferson Streets in downtown Plymouth during their annual Peanut Days Fundraiser. In the past several years the fundraiser has expanded to include gummi bears.
All money raised will go toward the Kiwanis’ mission of serving the children of the world. Projects funded, in whole or in part, by the fundraiser include college scholarships to local high school seniors, shoes and coats for children in need and more.
The peanut sale is handled entirely by volunteers. No Kiwanian is ever paid to administer or participate in the program.
Kiwanis members will don safety vests and place cones on Michigan and Jefferson Streets as they stand in the street to collect change and bills in exchange for a small treat of a bag of peanuts or gummi bears. Plymouth Kiwanis members will be collecting funds on Friday and Saturday, May 19th and 20th.
The City Council unanimously approved their application for exemption of licensing.
