Sen. Young praises Commerce Committee passage of Artificial Intelligence Bills

U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) applauded the passage of several of his artificial intelligence (AI) priorities by the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.

“I am pleased by the support from many of my colleagues on the Commerce Committee of these incredibly important AI policy ideas that will strike the right balance on targeted voluntary standards, international coordination, access to research resources, and public awareness. I urge the full Senate to pass these bipartisan bills to ensure the United States continues to lead the world in AI innovation," said Senator Young.

Senator Young’s legislation that passed the Commerce Committee includes:

  • The Future of Artificial Intelligence Innovation Act of 2024, which supports AI innovation by continuing to bolster U.S. leadership in the global race to develop AI and other emerging technologies. The legislation promotes strong partnerships between government, business, and academia to advance AI research and support the development of voluntary standards, performance benchmarks, and best practices.
  • The CREATE AI Act, which would establish the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource as a shared national research infrastructure that provides AI researchers and students with greater access to the complex resources, data, and tools needed to develop AI and spur innovation.
  • The Artificial Intelligence Public Awareness and Education Campaign Act, which would help raise awareness and boost public trust in AI. The bipartisan bill is an important step in ensuring all Americans can benefit from the opportunities created by artificial intelligence.
  • The EPIC Act, which would establish a nonprofit foundation that would leverage private funding and bolster public-private collaboration to promote U.S. technological innovation and industrial competitiveness at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. This bill was adopted as an amendment to the Future of AI Innovation Act.
  • The TAKE IT DOWN Act, which would build on existing federal law to protect Americans, particularly young women, from harmful deepfakes and establish a requirement for websites to take down this type of explicit and disturbing material.
  • The Promoting United States Leadership in Standards Act, which aims to improve visibility into standards setting related to emerging technologies and increase U.S. participation in these critical activities.
