Sharkey, a Democrat, throws hat in for County Commissioner District 3

Shiloh Carothers Milner, Chair of the Marshall County Democratic Party announces today that Benjamin Sharkey is filing for Marshall County Commissioner, District 3. Ben has been a resident of Argos for 5 years.

He is a graduate of Goshen High School. During his Junior and Senior years, he concurrently attended a course at the Elkhart Area Career Center studying the field of public safety where he was inducted into the Technical National Honor Society. These studies included firefighting, rescue tactics, law enforcement, forensics, and first responder first aid. He utilized these skills in private security and as a corrections officer for the Elkhart County Sheriff’s department.

Prior to his move to Indiana, he lived in the southeastern plains of Colorado where he was exposed to substantial agricultural environments such as farming and ranching. Some of this exposure and experience was gained while doing work on his pastor’s ranch. This experience granted Ben an understanding and deep appreciation for the agricultural industries.

While serving in a political capacity will be a new opportunity, serving his community is not. I am proud to have served in numerous charitable church functions, organized blood drives at the Elkhart Area Career Academy (EACC) and helped start a non-profit Pet Food Pantry in Colorado during the recession of 2008.  Ben stated “These experiences have given me a drive to continue to serve my community for the benefit of all and I am looking forward to the opportunity to be a voice of the people, for the people. My motto will be “A new face for challenging times and looking forward to meeting the voters in Marshall County.”

Ben works as a local truck driver and has been driving professionally since 2016. Ben is married to Elizabeth Hart and together they have a blended family of seven children and one grandchild.
