Winterfest in Culver this Weekend

The 9th Annual Culver Winterfest, sponsored by the Culver Chamber is a fantastic 3-day FREE festival that encourages family fun! It’s this weekend, February 10th thru the 12th in Culver and it was created to celebrate Winter.

While this winter’s weather has been a bit unusual the Culver community will still host their usual events with only minor modifications. The forecast is calling for the mid-50s on Thursday but then for Friday, and Saturday the temperature drops into the ’30s and on Sunday it warms back up to the mid-40s.

A special event, all three days is the Ice Sculptures spread throughout the town. These hand-carved works of art are amazing to see, but you might want to check them out early because melting will occur with warmer temperatures. Saturday night from 6 to 10 in the downtown area there will be the Ice Fights with dueling ice carvers, a beer garden, and a s’mores station.

For the polar plunge, on Sunday from noon till 3, instead of jumping in the frozen water hole, plungers will just run into the cold water.  This is one of the major fundraisers for Winterfest and you need to register, pay a fee and sign a waiver.  Many participants dress very creatively for this event.

All three days the town hosts a large sledding hill in the park. One of the organizers has a snow-making machine, so they will be making snow all weekend.

Friday night is the Cupid’s Crawl from 4 to 8 with retail shops staying open late for shoppers.

Saturday begins with the Cupid’s Dart at 9 A.M.  This is an informal and unofficial fun run/walk offering a 5K and 1-mile event with no fee or registration required.  From 8 to 11 on Saturday the Culver Lions Club will host a pancake breakfast at the depot. The park department is offering a free yoga class at 10 and the Farmers’ Market is open from 10 to 1.

Sunday starts off with a Grab & Go Lions Club breakfast from 8 to 11.   The Polar Plunge, sponsored by the Culver Beard Club begins at noon and the famous chili cook-off is from 1 to 3.

Head to Culver this weekend and enjoy all they have to offer.
