Barbara Bitting, 99, of Argos, passed away on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at Pilgrim Manor of Plymouth.
Barbara was born on April 16, 1925, to Ralph and Vera (Livinghouse) Irwin in Plymouth. She married Russell (Gus) Bitting on Aug. 30, 1947, and he preceded her in death. They moved to Argos from Naperville, Ill., in 1975. There they built their forever home, which became the Bitting Family Farm. They raised their coon dogs and enjoyed their life on the farm.
Barb was an avid cross stitcher, needle pointer and bridge player. She was very active in her church community and her community projects, as well as being a very involved member of the International Chapter P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was an accomplished cake decorator and was well known for her black walnut fudge and blueberry pies. She brought joy to everyone she met and never knew a stranger. She will be greatly missed by all.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Vera Irwin; her husband, Russell Bitting; her nephew, Phil Wickey; her sister, Betty Taylor; and her aunt, Beulah Starner.
Barbara is survived by her nephews: Bomber and Nita Wickey of Argos, along with their children; and David and Jea Wickey, of Tucson, Ariz., along with their children.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Byron Holm and Traditions Hospice for the care that they gave Barbara.
Cremation has been chosen and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
