Benjamin, 57, passed away from postoperative complications following an aorta transplant on June 26, 2024, at the University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was the son of Michael D. and the late Joanne M. (Rigal) Boys, and the second youngest out of their five children.
Benjamin graduated from Plymouth High School in 1985, then attended Roosevelt's Chicago College of Performing Arts. He later received his associate’s degree in audio engineering from Indiana University, Bloomington. He was employed as a Project Engineer at Macom Technology Solutions in Ann Arbor, where he worked for over twenty years.
Benjamin was a talented musician, artist, sculptor, singer, and builder. Benjamin was one of the original founding members of the Jazz/Fusion rock band Straightaway, a local band in Plymouth, Indiana. He was the band’s drummer and the recording engineer for their first album, Songs of Hope. In his younger years, he was very involved in the First United Methodist Church’s Youth program. He went on many mission work trips; they included going to Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and twice to St. Louis, Missouri.
Being a kind, intelligent, and thoughtful person, Ben was always ready to greet people with a hug - - an expression of the love he had for them. He lived a life of one who loved and respected nature. He enjoyed spending time with his family; raising his daughter Phoebe brought him exceptional joy!
A memorial service of celebration, to honor the life of Benjamin Boys, will take place at 4:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, July 20, in the First United Methodist Church’s Fellowship Hall—located on Adams Street, east of the main sanctuary building on 400 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Indiana. Visitation for friends and family will be from 1:00-4:00, with the service to follow.
Flowers and plants may be delivered to the First United Methodist Church by noon Friday, July 19.
