Charles "Ben" Clough, 86, of Plymouth

Charles “Ben” Clough, 86, of Plymouth, Indiana passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at his home. On June 17, 1937, he was born in Plymouth to Charles W. and Ruby J. (Hisey) Clough. 

He was united in marriage to Cathy J. Shoemaker on June 18, 1978, in Plymouth, who survives. Ben was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1955 and then he served our country honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps.

A lifetime resident of Plymouth, Ben worked as a loan officer for various local banks in Plymouth over the course of his 40-year career. Ben had a servant’s heart and always wanted to help others. He was a member of Phi Delta and the Elks Lodge.  He also served on Plymouth City Council and worked at the Plymouth Parks Dept. for 16 years after his retirement. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Plymouth, helping on various committees throughout the years.

Ben’s family described him as being the most loving and caring person; always uplifting those around him. Strangers were friends that he had not met yet. Ben was known for his patience and his kind nature.

His hobbies included golfing, fishing and anything that involved the beach or a body of water. He looked forward to the yearly trips to Key West with his nephew, Charlie. Ben was an avid White Sox and Green Bay Packers fan, along with any sort of College Sports.

Ben is survived by his wife of 45 years, Cathy; daughter, Shawn E. Humpfrey; two grandchildren, Benjamin R. Rago and Michelle M. Rago; sister, Susan Howard; brother-in-law, Michael Shoemaker and sister-in-law, Karen (Billy) Woodruff; nephews, Charlie Howard and Woody Woodruff and nieces, Anne Howard, Kate Arnold, and Kaleena Woodruff.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jim Howard.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 18th from 4-8PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Visitation will resume at 10AM at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 19th. A memorial service will follow at 11AM with Pastor Lauren Hall officiating.

Interment will take place at New Oak Hill Cemetery, 1300 Chester St, Plymouth, IN 46563.
