Donald George Anders, 89, of Plymouth, passed away peacefully in his home on February 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Originally from Bourbon, Don was born to George W. and Annabelle Anders on October 29, 1933. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Orville (Bob), Marvin, and Greta Bell.
In the eighth grade at a one-room school in Inwood, he met Ruth Ann, his lifetime one and only. Don graduated from Bourbon High School in 1951. In his younger years he was a successful bronc rider, which can be seen by his many ribbons and awards. His highlight was riding at the Cheyenne Frontiers Arena in Wyoming. Don also served in the US Army for two years at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.
Don’s chosen career became real estate. He started his real estate career in 1960. He was known to many as the “Farm Man.” Don was a people person and never met a stranger. He always had a story to share. His loyalty and integrity were witnessed by all who knew him.
Don could frequently be found outdoors. Whether on the water with a fishing pole in his hand or in the woods, rabbit, or deer hunting, he respected and loved nature. Don’s hobbies included a passion for woodworking. From cradles to toy boxes, he put his heart into every piece he made. Don taught us all how to use our hearts to the fullest. He loved his neighbors, his friends, his co-workers, and mostly his family.
Left behind is his wife, Ruth Ann (Dipert) of 70 years and his children: Debra Anders Scott; Lisa Kay (Mark) Potter; and Richard (Amy) Paton. Grandchildren: Logan (Meghan) Potter; Joshua (Kaisi) Scott; Lexi (Kyle) Hein; Rinda-Kay Scott; Haley (Justin) Buchert; Taylor (Allison) Scott; Hunter Paton; and LeeAnn Potter. Great grandchildren: Everly and Madeline Potter and LanDon Buchert.
Celebration of Life services are planned for Don, Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Plymouth Moose Lodge (1225 West Jefferson Street, Plymouth, IN 46563).
Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., culminating with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.
Don was very proud to be a Mason. Memorial contributions in Don’s name can be made to the Plymouth Mason Lodge #149 Scholarship Fund (109 Water Street, Plymouth, IN 46563).
