Doris Marie Newberg, 87 of Plymouth, IN, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. in Miller’s Merry Manor of Plymouth, IN.
Doris was born to Carl and Zenith (Hochstetler) Rettinger on July 8, 1937 in Bourbon, IN. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1956, where she was a cheerleader. She married Victor Newberg on September 1, 1955 and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2005. She worked in Human Resources for Murphy Mart, and she worked for Big Blue, Kmart, as a nurse’s aide, and she sold real estate, trailers, and cars. She attended Calvary Lutheran Church, and had attended Immanuel Lutheran Church of Donaldson, IN. She enjoyed cleaning houses. She was a hard worker, tenacious, little but mighty, feisty, stubborn, and a private person, but was also a very loving caregiver. She took care of her family’s children from her siblings through to her grandchildren, along with taking care of friends’ and coworker’s children. She was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Hugh) Hill of Plymouth, IN; her son, Steve (Susan) Newberg of Buchannan, MI; her 6 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Carla (Bob) Jones of Muncie, IN; Becky (Paul) Davis of Valparaiso, IN; and her brother, Phillip Mitchell of Niceville, FL.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Zenith Rettinger; her husband, Victor Newberg; her sister, Rochelle Noble; her brothers: Elmo Gary Mitchell; and Bruce Mitchell.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Van Gilder Funeral Home (300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563).
A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Kristin Harp officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Traditions Hospice (3555 Park Place W., Suite 100, Mishawaka, Indiana 46545) or to Alzheimer's Disease Research & Pathology (Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, 635 Barnhill Drive, MS A138 Indianapolis, IN 46202) in honor of Doris.
