Dorothy J. Haywood, 82, of Plymouth, IN, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024 at home. She was born February 14, 1942 in East Gary.
Dorothy graduated from River Forest High School in 1961. She married the love of her life, Roy Haywood, on December 30, 1963. They always showed their enormous love and devotion to each other and their family. Dorothy and Roy had a wonderful life together and were fortunate to enjoy 33 years of retirement together. They kept busy renovating rental homes, beautifully landscaping the yards of homes they’ve lived in, taking drives, and just spending the day together. They lived close to their daughters and loved seeing them and their families. Roy preceded her in death on May 28, 2021. They were married 57 years.
Dorothy has since enjoyed vacations, camping and family events with her daughters and their families. She was overwhelmed with happiness to have 3 more great-grandbabies in the past 10 months. Also, she continued to enjoy planting her flowers every summer and keeping busy in her yard. Anyone that had the pleasure of knowing Dorothy would say that she was the sweetest person.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her daughters: Cheryl (Ron) Shinkle of Plymouth, IN; Rhonda (Brian) Alleman of Hebron, IN; her grandchildren: Ashlee (Kendall) Spencer; Marci (Joe) Arroyo; Daniel (Brooke) Shinkle; David Shinkle; and her great-grandchildren: Avery; Nathan; Madelyn; Ellie; and Emmy.
Dorothy’s wishes were cremation and to have a “Celebration of Life” with her immediate family. The family would like to thank the Marshall County Center of Hospice for their compassion, dedication, and personal care for Dorothy.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marshall County Center for Hospice Care (1419 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563).
