Eldon C. “Whitey” Reed, 87, of Plymouth

Eldon C. “Whitey” Reed, 87, of Plymouth, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2025 in Valparaiso Care and Rehab in Valparaiso, IN.

Eldon was born June 24, 1937 in Plymouth, IN, to the late Herman and Opal (Kaufman) Reed. He was a lifelong resident of Plymouth. Eldon graduated from LaPaz High School in 1956. He married Gerry Baker on June 23, 1957 in The First Methodist Church of Plymouth and they enjoyed 67 years together. Eldon worked for Marshall County R.E.M.C. for 41 years until his retirement. He then worked part-time for Husband Exterminating. He also loved to farm and enjoyed spending hours in the field on his tractor. He was a member of St. Joseph Valley Beagle Club and attended Shiloh Wesleyan Church. He raised and sold beagles, went rabbit hunting, and traveled with American Dream Tours. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.

Surviving is his wife, Gerry Reed of Plymouth, IN; his two loving daughters: Rhonda K. (Don McCarty) Reed of Grovertown, IN; Amy J. (Richard) Paton of Plymouth, IN; four grandchildren: Jodi Stiles; Staci (Shawn) McCarty; Haley (Justin) Buchert; Hunter (Gracie) Paton; six great-grandchildren: Charles; Ethan; Jayden; Kyler; DaShawn; Landon; brother, James (Joyce) Reed of Bremen, IN; sister, Marilyn (Dave) Back of Plymouth, IN; brother-in-law, Jack McFarland of Plymouth, IN; along with several nieces and nephews.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Opal Reed; his sister-in-law, Joyce McFarland; and his sister, Shirley (Reed) Badtke; and his brother, Devon Reed.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Deaton-Clemens Van Gilder Funeral Home (300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563).

The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ed Friberg officiating.

The burial will take place in Fairmount Cemetery (Plymouth, IN).

Memorial donations may be made to Shiloh Wesleyan Church (10532 4B Road, Plymouth, IN 46563) in Eldon’s honor.
