Evelyn B. Hutchison, 86, of Wyatt often called Mema by those who knew and loved her, passed away on October 26, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Born on August 18, 1938 in Huntington, WV, Evelyn was the daughter of Desaway and Aileen Peyton.
On February 2, 1970, Mema married the love of her life Gene Hutchison in Kissimmee, FL. They would blend their families and raise three daughters, Bobbie, Jennifer and Leigh Ann. Family was at the heart and soul of what Mema cherished the most. There’s countless memories of trips to West Virginia, making fudge at the holidays, or savoring homemade biscuits and gravy in the morning; all of which centered around those she loved most.
Mema started her career as a stenographer at Marshall University. She would then go on to work in accounting at Safeway. Mema carried on the legacy that her and Gene built together through their rental properties and Marshall County Motors and was still actively working until her passing. In her free time, she enjoyed being in nature, enjoying bird watching or tending to her garden.
Mema’s family will remember her for her patient and kind personality. She was always willing to lend a listening ear and go out of her way to help others.
Until her health would no longer allow, Mema was a faithful member of the Living Stones Church in South Bend for over 20 years.
Mema will be missed by her daughter, Bobbie Burd Toth along with grandsons, Graham and Matthew; step-daughters, Jennifer Smith and Leigh Ann Welch; and brother, William Peyton.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hutchison; parents, Desaway and Aileen; sister, Janet Sue Peyton; sister-in-law, Cheryl Peyton; and son-in-law, Gregory Toth.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 4-6PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following at 6PM.
