Jose A. Gonzalez, 84, of Plymouth passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 3, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born on May 10, 1940, in Nueva Rosita, Mexico he was the son of Pablo and Josefa (Riojas) Gonzalez. He attended Plymouth High School, graduating with the class of 1960. Jose and Kay met for the first time at Harvey’s Dime Store, she asked him to the Sunshine dance and the rest was history. They were married on November 18, 1960, in Plymouth.
Jose worked for McGill Manufacturing in Culver as a Production Supervisor and Union Tank Car Company in East Chicago, IN before retiring in 2005.
A man known for his incredible work ethic as well as his incredible soul. Outgoing and generous are just two words that describe Jose. He never put himself before anyone, and he lived by the golden rule to treat others as you want to be treated.
Jose enjoyed hitting the links on the golf course to stepping up to the plate to play baseball and softball. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus #1975 and a past President of the Plymouth Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife Kay of Plymouth; children: Deanna Howard of Plymouth; Bonnie Gonzalez of Plymouth; Paul (Marissa) Gonzalez of South Bend; Stephen (Stephanie) Gonzalez of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren: Natasha (Tommy) Edwards of Plymouth; Ashley (Tanner) Kilmer of Lawrence KS; Wyatt (Sydnee) Howard of Kokomo, IN; Kendra Howard of Plymouth; Christian Gonzalez of Lakeland, FL; Briella Gonzalez of Lakeland, FL; great-grandchildren: Payton Bonebrake of New Lenox, Ill; Isaiah Caudill, Isaac Caudill, Valerie Van Landingham , Sunshine Kilmer all of Lawrence, KS; Colton Edwards of Argos; sisters: Socorro (Jose) Jimenez and Aurora Reyes of Saltillo, Mexico.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents, sister Elisa Gonzalez, son-in-law Kenneth “Butch” Howard, brother-in-law Aaron Reyes and great-granddaughter Erin Edwards.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from 11-1 pm at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth. Mass of a Christian Burial will immediately follow with Fr. Fernando Jimenez officiating.
Burial will take place in the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
