Luis E. Caban, 63, of Auburn and formerly of Plymouth

Auburn – Luis E. Caban, 63, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2025 at his home. Born on May 8, 1961, in Chicago to Manuel Sr. and Myra (Langnes) Caban, Rick carried with him a spirit of kindness and compassion that touched everyone who knew him.

Although he never had children of his own, Rick's love for children was boundless. His dedication as a substitute teacher in the Marshall, St. Joseph, and Dekalb County schools allowed him to nurture young minds and foster a love of learning. He also shared his passion for sports as a coach for junior varsity girls’ softball. As a committed member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Waterloo, he devoted his time to the youth groups and actively participated in Bible studies, exemplifying a profound and unwavering Christian faith that has inspired many.

Rick’s role in security at Four Winds enabled him to connect with staff and patrons alike, where his caring nature was evident. A true embodiment of selflessness, Rick often lent a helping hand, particularly as an interpreter for the Marshall County Circuit Court, providing comfort and assistance to those in need.

Rick held a deep passion for collecting baseball cards, boasting an impressive collection of over 250,000 cards. He eagerly anticipated watching the Chicago Cubs, proudly supporting his team, and was a devoted fan of the World Wrestling Federation.

Rick is survived by his siblings, Manuel (Jill) Caban, Diana Caban, Emilio Caban, Roberto (Jennifer) Caban, and Kimberly Weekley; step-daughters, Haley and Taylor Culbertson and their mother, Tawny. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, with whom he created countless memories throughout his life.
