Lynda J. Xaver, age 76, of Athens, Alabama, and formerly of Plymouth

Lynda J. Xaver, age 76, of Athens, AL passed away July 14, 2024, at her home.  She was born on December 19, 1947, in Plymouth, Indiana, to Wm Francis and Irene (Pickavet) Xaver. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School, class of 1966 and Elkhart General Hospital’s School of Radiologic Technology.

Lynda served her communities by taking mammograms and ultrasounds.  She worked at Parkview Hospital - Plymouth, St Joseph Hospital - Plymouth and Athens Community Hospital, Athens, AL.  Lynda enjoyed helping the patients while they were in her care.  She encouraged everyone to get a mammogram for their health and well-being.

Lynda was a gifted quilter; she loved choosing fabrics that went well together, piecing and hand quilting.   Her favorite pattern was the Log Cabin, because depending on the color placement in the square and the position of the square in the quilt, there were many quilt designs she could make.  While living in Valparaiso, Lynda was asked to make Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for residents in nursing homes; the following year she made clowns for them and “pockets” for their wheelchairs or bedsides; the following year she made lap quilts for the residents.  While in Alabama, Lynda made dresses to be sent overseas and participated in the Linus Project, which provides handmade blankets to children in the United States who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need.  During COVID, Lynda sewed hundreds of face masks, including those that she donated to the less fortunate in Athens.

After she moved to Alabama, Lynda and her mom would often choose a quilt to make “together” – but each in their own home.  They would share their progress throughout the process, and each have a quilt to show each other when they finished.

Lynda was a member of St Paul’s Catholic Church in Athens, AL, and a former member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Plymouth.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Bill Hollett, his wife Daniela and their children, Sofia Hollett, Sylvia Hollett and William Hollett as well as William’s wife, Dawn, and their son Liam.  Also surviving are her sisters: Janice, Eloise (Frank Geiselhofer), Luann (Michael Falkowski) and Jeanine; and her brothers Gerard (Sharon) and Joe.

Lynda was preceded in passing by her parents, her brothers Bill and Paul and her husband, Orley.

The Rosary will be recited on Saturday, July 27th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church (611 N. Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563). A time of visiting with Lynda’s family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. to noon.  A Rite of Christian Burial will be held in St. Michael Catholic Church at noon with Fr. Fernando Jimenez presiding. Burial will follow at New Oak Hill Cemetery in Plymouth, IN.

The family requests that memorial contributions in honor of Lynda be made to St. Michael Catholic School (mail to 627 N Walnut Street, Plymouth, IN 46563).
