Lynette J. Ramsbey, 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Parkview Kosciusko Hospital, Warsaw.
Born on May 3, 1930, in Hamlet, Indiana, she was the daughter of Edwin A. and Ruth G. (Murten) Shei. She graduated from Hamlet High School with the class of 1948. Lynette graduated from South Bend College of Commerce with a secretarial degree. She attended Ancilla College and then graduated from Indiana University South Bend with a teaching degree.
On January 24, 1953, she married Gene Ramsbey. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2020. Lynette worked at the “Old” Webster Elementary School as a secretary and returned to the “New” Webster as a dedicated and creative teacher. She will forever be remembered for the butterfly garden that she planted at “New” Webster to share her love of birds and flowers.
Lynette was known for taking personal interest in and caring for others of all ages, ethnicities, and economic statuses. She was a woman that shared her faith by action. The love of nature was a true passion of hers. She was a master gardener. Lynette was forever a learner, inquiring and reading about anything that she could get her hands on. You would also find her cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers and her beloved Chicago Cubs.
Lynette loved being a grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and aunt, taking interest in anything that her progenies were doing, sharing their joys and trials to her final hours. She enjoyed traveling, especially to every state park.
She was a member of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, the Plymouth Public Library (serving as president of the board of trustees and when the new library was built circa 1976), Teachers Association, Tri-Kappa Active and Associates.
She is survived by her children: Diane L. Quance of Warsaw; Dawn M. (Scott) Helm of Elkhart; Mark T. (Mai) Ramsbey of Sunnyvale, CA; Paul D. (Rayelene) Ramsbey of Pipestone, MN; 11 grandchildren: Aaron (Dana) Quance, Melita (Fransico) Quance, Corban (Caitlin) Quance, Matt (Lauren) Ihnen, Andrea (Brock) Shultz, Amy Ihnen, Mindy (Brian) Honaker, Katie Helm, Tim (Kesia) Bui, Neil Ramsbey, Tyler (Ashley) Ramsbey, 13 great-grandchildren: Trinity, Beck, Noah, Rowland, Walter, Charlie, Bryce, Maci, Lane, Carson, Sienna, Ava, and Elijah; 1 great-great grandchild: Koe; sister Pearl A. (George) Killian of Waxshaw, NC; cousin Holly Murten of San Diego, CA.
Lynette is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, daughter Barbara Ihnen, brothers H. Ray (Dorothy) Shei and Ronald E. Shei, brothers-in-law Richard (Phyllis) Ramsbey and Thomas (Thiel) Ramsbey, infant grandson Kyle D. Ihnen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 5-8 pm at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563.
Visitation will also be held at 10 am on Saturday, February 15, 2025, prior to 11 am funeral services at the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563 with Pastor Michelle Leonard officiating.
Burial will be in the New Oak Hill Cemetery, Plymouth.
