Nelson W. Yockey, 94, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025. A lifelong Plymouth, Indiana resident, Nelson was the son of the late Owen and Blanche (Parker) Yockey.
Married to his wife, Doris for 73 years, Nelson served our country as a Korean War Army veteran. Nelson was well known in the community, retired from the Plymouth branch of the US Postal Service and for many years, ran a television and radio repair business. For most of his life, Nelson donated life-saving blood to the American Red Cross, reaching a total donation of 25 gallons.
A Christian who valued his faith and service to God above all else, Nelson was a member of First Community Church of God in Lapaz, Indiana for many, many years.
He enjoyed watching Plymouth HS Basketball and Football, Chicago Bears, and was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan. Over the years, Nelson and Doris traveled the country to see first his sons in theatre performances and later his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Doris (Hibnar) Yockey, son Douglas Yockey of Plymouth, son Denton (Gina) Yockey of Alexandria, Kentucky, grandchildren Grayson Yockey of Atlanta, Georgia and Gwyneth Yockey of New York, NY, as well as brother Herschel (Mary Kay) Yockey of Plymouth.
Nelson was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Leann Yockey, sisters Marjorie Breeding and Leota Hendricks of Plymouth and brothers Elwyn Yockey of Plymouth and Merle Yockey of Fort Wayne.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 12-1PM at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 1PM.
