Richard Dale Bennitt, 82, of Rochester passed away peacefully at home Friday, November 5, 2021.

Richard was born August 24, 1939 in LaPorte, IN to Ada (Barnes) and Foster Bennitt.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Bennitt (Speeks); his daughters: Shari and Dan Davis; Rhonda and Mike Williamson; his stepson, Paul and Jodi Williams; his loving grandchildren: Jennie; Wayne; Richie; Brandy; Ben; and Bently; cherished great-grandchildren, Shelby; Brooklyn; Hallie; Jolee and Tanner; Bryson; Katelyn and Lanie; Ethan; Ayden and Ashton; a step-sister, Alison (Solan) Howard; Sister-in-law Helen Shaul; brothers-in-law: Shelly Speeks and Everett (Chris) Speeks; along with many other family members.

Richard was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammi Sue Bennitt; his mother, Ada Zellers; father, Foster Bennitt; brother, Harry Bennitt; and mother-in-law, Harriet Speeks.

Richard was known by family and friends as Dick. Dick had a heart of gold and his handshake was his word. Dick worked at multiple wire extrusion companies throughout the years and ultimately proudly owned Bourbon Plastics, Inc. in Bourbon, IN with his loving wife, Peggy. Dick enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves in 1957 and was Honorably Discharged. Dick was a Mason at the Masonic Lodge 291, F.& A.M. in Rolling Prairie, IN. Dick was an avid NASCAR fan #3 and #8, and enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Deaton-Clemens Van Gilder Funeral Home (300 W. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563) from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. before the service in Deaton-Clemens Van Gilder Funeral Home (300 S. Madison St., Plymouth, IN 46563). Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Olive Chapel Cemetery (South Bend, IN) with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or ALZ.org).
