Robert “Bob” J. Whitmer, 86, of Plymouth, IN, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in Ernestine M. Raclin House of Mishawaka, IN.
Robert was born to William and Isabel (Barker) Whitmer on May 14, 1937 in Canton, OH. He graduated in 1955 from Lehman High School in Canton, OH. He married Donna Taber on July 21, 1984. He was a member of the American Legion #427 of Plymouth, IN and a former Elk’s member. Served in the United States Navy on the USS Strong #758 from 1955 – 1957. He worked at American Electric Power in Canton, OH. as a Lab Manager. Then he became a Specialist working at an AEP, Ultra-high voltage research plant in Lakeville, IN. He enjoyed woodworking of all kinds, fishing and camping in Canada, loved animals, the Breakfast Group, and fun at the Legion. He enjoyed anything related to weather, and had many weather stations, he enjoyed monitoring.
Robert will be missed by his wife, Donna Whitmer and his son, Bill (Kim) Whitmer of Dunedin, FL.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, William and Isabel Whitmer; his daughter, Rebecca Chapman; his sisters, Mimi Heighway and her husband, Chuck; Dori Hummel and her husband, Bill; and his sister-in-law, Jan Leap.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care (1419 North Michigan St. Plymouth, IN 46563).
Cremation has been chosen and a memorial service will be planned at a later date.
