WINAMAC – Victor Blaine Weber, 85, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024 at Northwest Hospital in Valparaiso. Born on December 4, 1939 in Seattle, WA, he was the cherished son of Bryle and Inez (Savage) Weber.
Victor’s academic journey began with his graduation from Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, CA, where he distinguished himself as the Class Valedictorian. He pursued his passion for music with remarkable dedication, ultimately earning a PhD in Music Theory from the prestigious Yale University. He was also a member of the Wolf’s Head Society at Yale University. On December 22, 1962, he united in marriage with Vida Bull, the love of his life, who would later precede him in death.
A fervent admirer of Baroque music and early instruments, Victor’s profound appreciation for the art form was a guiding light throughout his distinguished career. He served as a Liturgical Music Director at several esteemed institutions, including Wooster College, the University of Illinois at Chicago, The Church of the Ascension, the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel at the University of Chicago, and Trinity Church in Michigan City. At the Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, Victor proudly conducted renowned works such as Fauré’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Mass in Time of War, leaving an undeniable mark on the musical community.
During his time in Chicago, Victor enriched his career while working at Shedd Aquarium and the Newberry Library. He relocated to Scottsdale, AZ and served in an administrative marketing role at the Phoenix Country Day School. Victor also led a choir group called the CANTAMUS that practiced at All Saints Episcopal Church in Phoenix. Upon relocating to Plymouth, he served as the musical director at St. Thomas Church and initiated beloved community dinner and movie nights at Opie’s Deli, fostering camaraderie and joy among residents for many years.
Victor's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his talent, kindness, and unwavering passion for music. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Victor is preceded in death by his wife, Vida; parents, Bryle and Inez; and pets, Barney, Cassie, Jake and Irv.
