William Eugene Harrell, 79, of Argos

William Eugene Harrell, 79, of Argos, Indiana passed away surrounded by his family at 7:24 am Saturday, August 12, 2023, in his residence.

On August 18, 1943, he was born in Argos to William Louis and Betty Jean (Kelver) Harrell.  He was united to Rosetta Kling on February 8, 1964, in Plymouth, Indiana, who survives.   William and Rosetta have been happily married for 60 years.

A lifetime farmer, William was dedicated to farming and believed in diversified farming.  He won the Marshall County Young Farmer Award, and he participated as Marshal of the Blueberry Festival Parade that same year.   He received the Highest Quality of Popcorn Award from Weaver Popcorn Co., Van Buren, Indiana, and he served on the Midwest Council for Dairy Farmers of America.  He enjoyed his involvement with 4-H, which he did for many years, working with children.  He provided baby pigs for the Pig Scramble and was interested in quality livestock, which his theme was “Bred with a Blue Ribbon in Mind.”  He was also known to give away animals to children who had special needs or disabilities.

William loved to fish and enjoyed having his children and grandchildren fish with him at his pond.  He enjoyed putting bait on their hooks and spending quality time with them.

William was proud of his three children, who survived him: Dana (Jeff) Verhaeghe, Plymouth, Damon (Charlene) Harrell, Argos, and Darla (Joe) Gipson, Markleville.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters and 1 brother.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his paternal grandparents, Jesse Owen and Angeline Harrell.

Visitation hours will be from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, in Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, Indiana 46563.  A funeral service will follow visitation at 12;00 noon on Wednesday with pastor Ron Hensley officiating.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos.
