Crown Point to host the Cal Ripken 10U World Series

All the games will be played at the Crown Point Cal Ripken Fields.

Crown Point is set to host the Cal Ripken 10U World Series for the second year in a row.

Twenty-five baseball teams from around the world will travel to Indiana to showcase their skills and compete to be crowned the World Series champs.

Teams will be competing from Indiana, Alabama, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington. There are also four international teams participating from Australia, Czech Republic, Germany and Panama.

“There isn’t always an international team, but each year the goal is to have one and this year we have four,” stated Joel Boomsma, VP of Crown Point Youth Baseball.

This year is the largest pool of teams at the 10U division with nearly 400 players. All the games will be played at the Crown Point Cal Ripken Fields, located at Jerry Ross Park, 341 W. North Street. The facility, which is located near downtown and just off the square, is one of the best in the area, with three turf fields, six outdoor batting cages, and stadium-like seating on their primary “Majors” field.

“We’re thrilled to host teams from around the globe here on the South Shore for this World Series,” stated Phil Taillon, SSCVA President/CEO. “Teams will be competing for 10 days but when they’re not playing, they are out making memories around Northwest Indiana and enjoying all of the unique attractions, shops and dining experiences the region has to offer.”

The week will begin with opening ceremonies on Friday at Bulldog Park. Festivities will include a parade of teams, a DJ, laser tag, game truck and other family-friendly activities. Competition will hit the ground running once pool play begins Saturday morning. Games will start around 10 a.m., with the last game commencing at 7 p.m. Also, there will be constant action at the facility, as the schedule is designed for two to three games to go on at the same time throughout pool play.
