Gov. Eric J. Holcomb proclaimed September as Campus Fire Safety Month to encourage college/university leadership and students to keep fire safety in mind as classes begin this fall.
Indiana State Fire Marshal Steve Jones and Illinois State Fire Marshal James A. Rivera will be visiting Indiana State University on Thursday to emphasize the importance of campus fire safety.

The event is at 1 p.m. at Indiana State University's Wolf Field, 301 Chestnut Street.

The National Fire Sprinkler Association will do a live, side-by-side burn demonstration showing the difference sprinklers can make in a fire. One room will be protected by a fire sprinkler, one room is not.
"Fires that begin in buildings that house so many people have the potential to get out of control quickly and impact a lot of lives," said Marshal Jones. "It is crucial that leaders take extra steps to protect students as they begin their collegiate journey. Students on their own for the first time also need to take responsibility for their safety and know what to do and where to go if a fire occurs."
