\n\nDANA- David W. Porter, 92, of Dana, Indiana went to meet his Lord and Savior on Palm Sunday April 2nd, 2023. He was born in Cayuga to Lee and Mable Porter. He had two older sisters, Helen Lee Dye and Dorothy Morgan. He graduated from Cayuga High School where he excelled as a hurdler. This is where he met the love of his life Virginia Conner. They were married in 1950 and had two children. Their lifelong love affair lasted for 72 years until her death in 2022. He is survived by his daughter Polly Porter, of Hillsboro, Virginia; grandson, David Porter, wife Eliza Porter, and great grandchildren Thomas, Andrew and Camille of Cayuga, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his son, Russell Porter.\n\nDavid grew up through the Great Depression. His family raised crops and livestock. David farmed for over 55 years, spending many early-morning and late-night hours cultivating his corn and soybean crops. He was a tiller of the soil.\n\nDavid was a gentle and loving man. He was able to strike up conversations and make friends easily. He was a great storyteller, and he had many stories to share. He could make you laugh and smile in an instant with his charming demeaner and great sense of humor.\n\nDavid loved to garden and continued to grow flowers and vegetables throughout his life. You would often see him driving his golfcart through town handing out sweet corn and tomatoes. David also enjoyed traveling. He and Virginia travelled to Canada and Hawaii among other places. Winter months were spent in Florida at their winter home where David enjoyed more gardening and playing cards.\n\nDavid also served his community. He was drafted into the Army Corp of Engineers and was honorably discharged at the end of his service. David served as a volunteer Fireman in Dana, Indiana. He was a lifelong devoted member of the Bono United Methodist Church and served on the Board for the Bono Cemetery. He was also a Freemason.\n\nServices will be 11: 00 am Saturday, April 8, at the Bono Cemetery Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
