\n\nBLOOMINGDALE-Dixie Joan Sowers, 81, of Bloomingdale, Indiana passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Harrison’s Crossing Health Campus in Terre Haute. She was a homemaker and a nurse’s aide for the Parke County Nursing Home.\n\nShe was born October 28, 1941, in Clinton, Indiana to the late Lawrence Clarkston and Junita Burke Murry.\n\nSurvivors include her husband of 61 years, David L. Sowers whom she married February 25, 1962 at the Bloomingdale United Methodist Church. Also surviving, two sons, Mark Sowers of Bloomingdale and John K. Sowers of Rockville; three brothers, John Clarkston of Cates, Jack (Laura) Clarkston of Kingman and Howard (Shirley) Clarkston of Advance, Missouri; three grandsons, Spencer, Levi(Hannah) and David (Tayler); 8 great grandchildren Haliana, Preslee, Navirah, Lucas, Addilynn, Kinley, Beckett and Sawyer.\n\nShe was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Sowers; son, Timothy Sowers; brothers, Larry, and Kenny Clarkston; sister-in-law, Wanda Clarkston.\n\nShe was a 1960 graduate of Kingman High School. She was a member of the Marshall Federated Church and attended the Rockville First Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the former Hedges chapter 51 Order of the Eastern Star in Bloomingdale. She devoted her life to raising children. She and Dave raised their three grandchildren and doted on all her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed flowers and tending her garden and yard. She took great pleasure feeding birds, especially hummingbirds and orioles. Her favorite jobs were babysitting for numerous families in the Marshall and Bloomingdale areas, creating long lasting relationships.\n\nServices will be 2:00 pm Friday, May 19, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, with the Rev. Ken Coffman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville.
