Donald Paul Hickman, 83, of Rosedale, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the Gibson Center for Hospice Care.
He was the Sales Manager for Wetnight RV. He was born August 27, 1941, at home in Austin, Indiana to the late Rupert Clark Hickman and Cecelia Miles Hickman.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Julia Ruth Huxford Hickman whom he married June 12, 1965; two sisters, Karen Hickman Sexton of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Myra J. Hickman of Sarasota, Florida; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gary Edward Kempf and Frederick Earl Hickman.
Don was deeply involved in his community. He was a 1959 graduate of Hillsboro High School and proudly served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Rosedale American Legion Tony Kashon Post 290 and served as a volunteer firefighter for Rosedale, often attending regional training workshops to improve safety and preparedness. A man of many talents, Don had a knack for fixing just about anything and often provided detailed instructions over the phone to help others solve problems. He was quietly generous, always helping without seeking recognition. He had a love for adventure and cherished his time snowmobiling, building stock cars, and attending races especially the Indianapolis 500. He and Julia also enjoyed traveling, particularly their annual trips to Florida, where they formed lifelong friendships and even helped beautify and repair their favorite motel. Donald's warmth, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Graveside services for family and close friends will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Rosedale Cemetery, with Pastor Dusty Woodrow officiating and military honors by the Rosedale American Legion Tony Kashon Post 290.
A celebration of Life will follow at noon immediately at the Rosedale Firehouse where Don volunteered for over 20 years.
Memorials should friends so desire may be made to a charity of choice.
