\n\nJohn Richard Kenley, age 92, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and caregivers on December 15th. He was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to Robert John and Margaret (Johnson) Kenley. He was a resident of Rockville for more than 50 years, moving with his family from Indianapolis in 1973.\n\nJohn was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven Paul, his brother Robert Hancock, his grandson Isaac Robert and his wife Dixie Lee. He is survived by his son John Robert (Pamela), daughter Anne (Steve Younce), daughter Karen Scales (Mark), daughter-in-law Cindy Lacefield (Mark) and step-daughter Vicki Kremer (Kris). He is also survived by his grandchildren Carl Kenley, Sara Kenley, John Kenley (Dahlia), Megan Schimes (Nathan), Amy Hollins (Anthony), Andrea Gordon (Greg), Lauren Rowe (Brandon), Kyle Kenley (Summer), Kristen Kenley (John Conzelmann), Bryant Scales (Amy), Jordan Fonseca (Josh), Bailey Britton (Andrew), Scotty Scales and by his great grandchildren Landon Kenley, Gweneth and Gabriel Tapia, Alexa and Kingston Gordon, Elliott Rowe, Mya Kenley, Jay Conzelmann, Blake and Laine Scales and Ava and Eli Fonseca.\n\nJohn graduated from Terre Haute Garfield High School in 1949, Indiana University School of Business in 1953 and Indiana University School of Law in May 1971 and was admitted to the Indiana Bar on September 22, 1971 at the age of 40. Before becoming an attorney, he worked for the Standard Oil Company as a sales representative, owned a Standard Oil service station and worked for Travelers Insurance Company as a claims adjuster while going to law school full time.\n\nJohn was a veteran of the US Air Force serving as a first lieutenant from 1953 - 1958 with the 43rd Air Refueling Squadron as a navigator stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB, Tucson Arizona. His job was to navigate B-29 Superfortress tanker planes and Boeing KC-97 Stratofreighters to refuel B-52 aircraft flying along the United States Canada border post Korean War. He was honorably discharged in December 1958 and returned to Indiana.\n\nJohn was a general practice attorney, served as Rockville town attorney, Parke County attorney, Rockville School Corporation attorney, deputy prosecutor and was elected Parke County prosecutor. He retired from Kenley and Kenley Attorneys at Law in August 2008 at the age of 77.\n\nJohn was an avid reader and proud to serve on the Parke County Library board. He was also a member of Masons (Parke Lodge #8), Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder, Rockville Elks and Rockville Rotary. He was an active member of the Parke County community.\n\nJohn and Dixie enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling throughout the US in their motorhome as well as spending many winters in Lady Lake, Florida. They also loved boating on Racoon Lake and Lake Monroe and whipping their grandchildren around on water tubes. He lived a long, happy life and will be missed by his family and friends.\n\nGraveside services will be held at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville Indiana on Thursday, December 28th at 10:30am.
