Richard Ray Landes, 83, of Rosedale, peacefully entered eternal rest on January 1, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, Maryland.
Richard and his twin Robert were born at home on the Landes family farm in Edgar County, Illinois. He was involved in 4-H, graduated from Kansas High School and married his high school sweetheart, Elaine Pinnell.
He was one of the start-up operators for Hercules, Inc. and retired in 2001 from what was then called AET Films. Richard was a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church, the former Rosedale Jaycees, the National Rifle Association, and the Freemasons.
Richard had a heart of gold and embodied the traits of a dependable and servant leader throughout his life. He was always there, with his trademark smile, to help someone else.
He enjoyed woodworking, golfing, maintaining his picturesque lawn, and playing cards. He also enjoyed many years of being a “Winter Texan”. What he cherished doing the most was cheering on his grandchildren and great grandchildren at their activities.
Richard will be greatly missed by his children Rick Landes of Bloomingdale, Steve (Tina) Landes of Rosedale, and Sherri (Greg) Gondeck of Frederick, Maryland, grandchildren Cody Landes, Casey Landes, Alana Bailey, J.R. Gondeck, Thomas Gondeck, step-grandsons Joseph and Jared Inman and Dane and Blaine Leatherman as well as numerous great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Ann. Richard has been reunited in Christ with his wife Elaine, parents Roy and Anna, brother Robert and daughter-in-law Sheila.
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, February 22 at Cottrell-Gooch Funeral Home.
The memorial service will directly follow at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Richard’s legacy by mentoring others and sharing your smile, as he so often did.
