Carlos Alcaraz defeats Alexander Zverev in French Open final

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday,

They came back from behind in the four hour and 19 minute match in Paris to win his first French Open title, and his third Grand Slam title. Alcaraz is now 3-0 in Grand Slam finals.

The 21-year-old Alcaraz became the youngest man to claim Grand Slam singles titles on all three tennis surfaces — clay, grass and hard court, earning $2.6 million for the win.

Alcaraz said at the trophy presentation at Roland Garros: “The last month we were struggling a lot with an [arm] injury and coming back. I didn’t feel well in Madrid. We had a lot of doubts coming here without practicing too much. I’m really grateful to have the team that I have. I know everyone in my team is giving their heart just to make me grow up as a player and a person.”

In the new edition of ATP Tour singles rankings released Monday, Alcaraz, the former No. 3 player in the world, now rises to the No. 2 spot behind No. 1 Jannik Sinner of Italy; while Zverev will stay at No. 4.
