After a successful career at Parke Heritage, Christian Johnson has cemented himself as one of the elites in the junior college football ranks.
Johnson, a quarterback at Hutchinson Community College (Kansas) recently won a NJCAA D1 National Championship, throwing the game winning touchdown to lead the Blue Dragons to a title.
"We've been dreaming about this since June, and, personally, since I have stepped foot on campus. Nothing and no one but God could have blessed us with this opportunity and people to achieve our biggest goal," Johnson told GIANT fm WREB.
In 11 games, the redshirt freshman was 65-of-112 for 983 yards and seven touchdowns through the air. He added another 321 yards and three trips to the end zone rushing.
However, it was his throw in the title tilt that fans will remember most.
"It felt amazing to play a hand in the win, but it meant so much more to have all the support from the coaches, players, fans and family. All of my guys lifted me up and believed in me, and it made all the difference," Johnson said.
He admits he was "surprised" with the touchdown pass.
"I was floored with emotions at the time, and I definitely had to pinch myself on the arm a couple times to make sure I was awake. We had hard fought battles all year and faced a lot of adversity throughout the game. I was just proud of my guys," Johnson said.
The former Parke Heritage signal caller said his time in high school helped pave the way for the success he has enjoyed on the college level.
"My time playing at Parke Heritage, I was young and just went out there and had fun. Being from a small town, you usually just play for the true enjoyment of the game, and when I am out on that field, I always remind myself to have fun. All of the hard work put in and habits I collected from playing under Coach Moore, are still within me today," Johnson said.
Johnson was recently offered by Division I North Alabama.
