The Parke Heritage High School girls basketball win over Attica on Saturday clinched the Wabash River Conference (WRC) championship with a 7-0 conference record for the second year in a row.

Team members are Anesa Veseli, Birkley Schelsky, Lila Busenbark, Raegan Ramsay, Addilee Jenkins, Cate O’Brien, Emma Simpson, Andi Perkins, Addison Jenkins, Addie Ramsay, Paisley Hartman, Cadela Fernandez, and Lexi McCormick.

So what's next for Parke Heritage? The path to a berth in the sectional championship game seems all but assured. After finishing the regular season with a Thursday game against Shakamak the Lady Wolves (18-4) will enter the 2A sectional at Greencastle a heavy favorite to win the title. They open the sectional Tuesday with a quarterfinal against a winless South Vermillion team that the Wolves have beaten three times by a combined 195 points.

South Putnam would be next in the Friday semifinal. South Putnam (11-11) received a first round bye. Parke Heritage won that regular season matchup on November 12 by 36, 66-30.

Parke Heritage is unbeaten (6-0) against the sectional field and 11-1 against 2A schools this season. The lone loss was a 56-24 decision at seventh-ranked North Knox.

Parke Heritage has improved each season under head coach Mark Harper. A 13-7 record was posted in his first season in 2020-21. The next season ended with 19 wins and a sectional championship loss to North Putnam.

The Wolves won 20 games the next season but were again denied a postseason title as 23-5 Greencastle advanced to the regional.

The breakthrough came last season as Parke Heritage went 23-4 and claimed a sectional title for the first time in Parke Heritage girls basketball history.
